Mahita, Madagascar – A new operating theater for children’s eye surgery opens
Achievement made possible thanks to your donations to CBM Luxembourg, working in partnership with CBM Switzerland
On May 10, 2023, the inauguration of a new paediatric ophthalmological operating room took place within the Analankininina Toamasina University Hospital Center – CHUAT.
This installation was made possible thanks to the support of CBM partners through the Mahita project – Paediatric Ophthalmology & Training Project. CBM Switzerland leads the Mahita project in Madagascar, while CBM Luxembourg donations provide financial support to make new additions like this operating room possible.
The CHUAT now has new infrastructures to receive young patients. This new access block is a real asset for the children of Toamasina and its surroundings, who will now receive quality care in an adapted and inclusive environment.
Board Member of CBM Luxembourg, Mark Schmid, was one of the speakers present at the inauguration. “It was a very positive moment to see the work of several teams and the results of many generous donations come together” said Mark.
“This new operating room gives a dedicated place for the hospital to receive children who need paediatric ophthalmological interventions. We hope the new room will help many children overcome their visual impairments.”
